HISTORY

El Centro de Corazón (El Centro) was established in 1994 as a social service organization with an initial focus on early childhood development. In 2003, El Centro expanded its services to include primary care by merging with Eastwood Health Clinic. Upon receiving FQHC status in December 2003, El Centro began providing primary care at its Navigation site. Over the next several years, El Centro continued to expand its services into the City of Houston’s Magnolia Multi Service Center then the John S. Dunn Health Center, both of which are one of El Centro’s three health center locations operating today. Today, El Centro provides primary care, women’s health, dental care and behavioral health care services at its three health center locations (Eastwood, John S. Dunn, and Magnolia) and provides primary care services in The Harris Center for Mental Health and IDD’s Southeast clinic.
