From Our Wellness Team

March marks National Nutrition Month, but it’s also when Houston weather is at its finest. With temperatures in the 70’s, it’s hard not to pair what’s on your plate with a little bit of fun on the trail. According to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, adults need 75 to 150 minutes of moderate to vigorous physical activity each week for positive health benefits. Here are a few examples of how to spice up your run and optimize your health.

Find a new trail

Believe it or not, Houston is home to a variety of different trails to walk, run, and bike. However, many of them go unexplored, which could easily lead to burn-out for new runners. It’s important to mix up your running routes, even for beginners. Houston Parks and Board website is a great tool to find your next great trail!

Run with a partner

Running with a partner not only holds you accountable, but it can also make your runs more fun. Although some people may enjoy running alone, running with a partner can help pass the time, get your partner healthy, and allows for the ability to challenge and push one another, which is harder to do alone.

Join a race

Joining a race is a fun favorite! The beauty of races is that it does not always have to be competitive. Instead, it’s a way to meet new people, run for a cause, add medals, and celebrate your accomplishments. Races around Houston can be used as part of your training, but they are more than that. COVID-19 has caused many difficulties and adjustments, but many organizations are hosting virtual runs where participants can still receive medals!
